What are the 20 rust States? Doesn't really matter since I'm not in one. Can I opt into the recall anyway?

Minnesota is one. You can see the damage it caused to my car's wheels.

Yuck, even some on the center cap.

Doesn't really affect me. I am due for brake pads though, might be a nice 2-fer-1 deal if I'm eligible for new brake lines, too.

That's how you know it wasn't just caused by curb rash. It's awful.

i couldn't imagine not being affected. sometimes i think there is more salt on the roads around here than snow

Seattle doesn't salt. It's bad for the fishies, or so they tell us.

Did they start routing the brake lines on the outside of the car or something? Or were those the fuel lines inside my Legacy. Maybe they were fuel. I should stop typing. And not click PUBLISH.
Edit: Fuck.
Edit #2. Yup. Fuel.

Didn't they do this last year too? My sister had our Outback, which was registered in Colorado, in Indiana, which uses salt, so it wasn't recalled. We had them check it out anyways and it was fine.

You've gone too far here. Even Colin Chapman would acknowledge some minimum acceptable level of accommodation.

Well it was "news" today on CNN, so yes, it's probably a year old. Or at least as old as the Malaysian flight news.
It could be an expansion of a prior recall for more models...maybe?

So I should have stopped long before..... this?

This recall, on the upside, does come with a soundtrack.

It's an expansion. The previous recall (#WGQ-43) was from April 2013 and was only for the 2005-2009 Legacy and Outback. This recall (#WQK-47) includes the 2005-2009 Legacy and Outback, the 2008-2011 Impreza, the 2008-2014 WRX and STi, and the 2009-2013 Forester.

This recall (#WQK-47) is an expansion of recall #WGQ-43 from April 2013, which only affected the 2005-2009 Legacy and Outback.

Okay that makes a lot of sense. Are the Outbacks "recalled" again, as in should they be checked, or are they adding Imprezas and Foresters and the cars that have already been checked are ok?

I'm not entirely sure how Subaru is handling this. My guess is that the cars that have already been checked are fine. They may have kept the Outback on this recall to catch anyone that either skipped or missed the first recall.
As far as I know, the fix is to replace the lines if they are too corroded, then apply an anti-corrosion sealant to the area. The sealant will be applied regardless if the lines are replaced. As long as that was done already, then there shouldn't be an issue now. However, it wouldn't hurt to verify with a dealer anyway.
